How I wish you were right now. I remember our last conversation being about me getting out the Army, and I've come to realize that before even hearing the news, I kept thinking of everything you taught me the day I decided to join again. I reenlisted only a few days after you left us, and every day, every move, every promotion, I still think of you and the strength you have given me. Now I turn to that strength and that knowledge to make the difficult decision I have to make today... I just wish I could hear your answer.

Almost 10 years later, my ankle injury has gotten worse, but with every step, I remember how you literally dragged me by the back of your rucksack to finish the roadmarch. Thank you, DS, I can not thank you enough. I truly miss you, and keep your family in your prayers as I know how much more they miss their "Kiki." I'm listening DS.. I'm listening in my heart and know that everything I've learned from you will guide me in making the right choice today.

Very Respectfully,

Jennifer Valega

Oh I pulled out my Old Green Army Values Card. You gave it to me after the FTX. I have the new one also but I just could never take the ugly green one off. So its nice that I have something you gave me to remember. Well I have many memories but this one I have with me.

Drill Sgt Gutierrez. Wow I am so shocked. You made such a good impression on me. I made it all the way from PVT to SSG because of your mentorship. I think the one thing I will remember is because I was Prior FA you took it pretty easy on me. I also remember when on FTX you putting a CS Canister on a stick and was running up and down our foxhole line. I was PG for most of the cycle so in that time I remember haveing to help some of our Soldiers get there mask on. You helped bring the Leader out in me. I can only offer my eternal Thank You. You will not be forgotten.

There beside a grave she stands a folded flag clutched in her hands. A silent teardrop on her face,

her brave young child has entered grace. She does not hear the sermon said, just memories run through her head. The child she held so long ago, the child with faith she let go. The child who heard the nation's call, and in the end gave it all, without fear or thoughts of self, thoughts of freedom and little else. The bugle plays TAPS in the wind, a mournful song it does send. A reminder to us all, that for freedom this price was paid, and her sweet young to rest was laid.

Your sacrifice will remain in our hearts for a lifetime,

with intense gratitude. May God bless you and your family.

Rest Safely and Securely in God's Loving Arms.

We cherish too, the Poppy red

That grows on fields where valor led,

It seems to signal to the skies

That blood of heros never dies.
