LAS VEGAS — The military says a 31-year-old soldier from Nevada has died in a helicopter accident in Afghanistan.
The Defense Department announced Jan. 23 that Army Spc. Ezra Dawson of Las Vegas died Jan. 17 when the Chinook helicopter he was in made a hard landing under combat conditions in Konar Province.
Military officials say the accident is being investigated.
Dawson was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 26th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division at Fort Hood, Texas.

Even though he was my younger brother, He has always been an hero to me. I am very proud of him and the time he spent with myself, our mother, my sisters and our children. I am currently in the process of starting a foundation to continue honoring my brothers legacy. He touched alot of lives and will continue to do so even though he is no longer in his physical form. Ezra will continue to support me in spirit. I am truly thankful for Ezra and I appreciate the kind words I have received from all over.
