GREENEVILLE, Tenn. Spc. Brandon Michael Read, a member of the Army Reserve, was killed by a roadside bomb in Iraq earlier this week, an Army official said.

Reads death was a result of enemy action, Capt. David Campbell, commander of the U.S. Army Reserves 639 Transportation Company in Kingsport, said Thursday.

Read, 21, had once been assigned to the Kingsport unit along with his father, Michael Read, but was currently with 125th Transportation Company based in Lexington, Ky.

Read, a 2001 graduate of Greeneville High School, is the son of Michael and Keli Read, neither of whom could be reached Thursday.

  i was in the 125th with sgt read and he was a good soldier. I remember him fixing a computer with the cpt. Sgt. Read really enjoyed being in the army and with the 125th. My name is spc Pollock . Bless his family and every fallen soldier.

Phil worked for me when he volunteered to deploy to Iraq with the Joint Contracting Command. He was a great officer, a great friend and an incredible husband/father. He was just a couple of days away from returning from his deployment. I received an email from him on 5 April requesting to stay a bit longer so he could finish the job started. I had not yet responded to his email when I was notified by our Commanding Office on Easter morning that Phil had been killed. Miss you Phil!
