died Aug. 6 in Wardak province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when the CH-47 Chinook helicopter in which he was riding was shot down.
The family of Jared Day, 28, of Taylorsville, Utah, confirmed the SEAL&rsquos death in a statement prior to the Defense Department&rsquos announcement.
Day&rsquos family attended a ceremony for the troops earlier this week at Dover Air Force Base, Del., where they were given a few minutes with President Obama.
Day enlisted in July 2002, according to the Navy. He graduated from Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL training at Coronado in 2005, and he was a member of a West Coast based SEAL team from November 2004 to November 2007 before reporting to his East Coast-based unit.
