POCATELLO, Idaho — Nearly 500 people turned out at the airport to greet the flag-draped casket of an eastern Idaho soldier killed in Iraq.
Sgt. Nicholas A. Gummersall, 23, of Chubbuck, Idaho, and three other Stryker Brigade soldiers died Aug. 6 when a blast destroyed a house they were clearing in Baqubah. They were members of Company B, 1st Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division (Stryker Brigade Combat Team), based at Fort Lewis, Wash.
Gummersall, on his fourth tour of duty, was due home Sept. 15, and was enrolled at Boise State University for fall classes.
His parents Clay and Carol Gummersall, as well as other relatives, friends and high school football teammates walked with the casket Aug. 14 as it was moved to a waiting hearse.
