Army Staff Sgt. Zachary B. Tomczak Zachary B. Tomczak was the starting fullback for his high school football team during his senior year, until an injury at the beginning of the season. "But he stuck with the team and came back at the end of the season to play," said Terry Nebelsick, his former principal. "He was a wonderful kid." Tomczak, 24, of Huron, S.D., was killed in Baghdad by small-arms fire Sept. 25. He was a 2002 high school graduate and was assigned to Fort Bragg. Tomczak loved going pheasant and deer hunting, but his real passion was four-wheeling. He also was active in the school''s journalism department and had strong carpentry skills. "He was a joy to be around," said Matt Busch, Tomczak''s high school building trades teacher and a former employer. "He showed up out of the blue about two years ago on one of our job sites just to say ''hi'' and to catch up. He was a good kid. He had a real sense of humor, too. I considered him a friend." He is survived by his wife, Beth. "He was just a neat person to be around," said Tomczak''s father, Blaise. "He had a real drive. He had very set values."
