NEW ORLEANS — Another member of the Louisiana National Guard’s 256th Infantry Brigade Combat Team has been killed by enemy fire.
Sgt. 1st Class Peter J. Hahn, of Kenner, died Tuesday when his observation point came under small-arms fire, the Army said Wednesday.
Hahn, 31, joined the Louisiana National Guard in 1996 after serving three years in the Army and was posthumously promoted to the rank of sergeant first class.
He was one of the 3,000 Louisiana Guardsmen of the 256th Infantry Brigade who have been patrolling a section of suburban Baghdad since November. Hahn was with the brigade’s 2nd Battalion, 156th Infantry Regiment, which is based in Houma.
Until a short time ago, most deaths in that unit were from roadside bombs, but the most recent deaths, including Hahn’s, were from hostile fire.
