Soldier wanted to &lsquostand up for America&rsquo

BOISE, Idaho &mdash A 24-year-old soldier died June 3 in Afghanistan when enemy forces attacked his unit with small arms fire.
Pfc. Cody O. Moosman of Preston died in Gayan Alwara Mandi, the Army said in a statement.
Moosman had been assigned to an Army unit out of Fort Riley, Kan. He was with the 1st Battalion, 28th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division.
Moosman&rsquos family issued a statement saying their son told them starting in the third grade that he had wanted to be in the Army.
He joined in 2010, at age 22, and loved the idea of protecting his fellow citizens, they wrote, describing him as an avid hunter and fisherman who had completed his Eagle Scout badge in the Boy Scouts.
&ldquoOur family enjoyed watching him stand up for America,&rdquo they wrote, asking for privacy as they grieved. &ldquoHe leaves behind his mother and father, two brothers and two sisters, his grandparents and his nieces and nephews who all very much adored him. We loved him, and we will miss him very much.&rdquo
Moosman&rsquos unit was deployed in a restive region near the border with Pakistan.
