Kentucky soldier dies in Afghanistan

LOUISVILLE, Ky. &mdash The Defense Department says a 20-year-old soldier from Kentucky has died in Afghanistan.
Spc. David W. Taylor of Dixon, Ky., died Thursday in Kandahar province, according a news release. The military said Taylor died from injuries sustained in an accident at an ammunition supply point and that the incident was under investigation, The Fayetteville Observer reported Saturday.
The military said Taylor was helping move ammunition when some of the rounds he and other soldiers were moving exploded.
Taylor was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, N.C.
Taylor joined the Army in 2010 as an infantryman. He attended One-Station Unit Training and Airborne School at Fort Benning, Ga. He joined 2-508th PIR on October 20, 2010. He was a graduate of the Warrior Leaders Course. This was his first deployment.
Kentucky Gov. Steve Beshear on Saturday ordered that flags at all state buildings be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset on the date of Taylor's interment. Arrangements are still pending.
