Ronald J. Ruben
Total Candles 1
I played golf with Ron on September 3, 2001. Ron was a good friend of my brother-in-law and I was up in New York for work, staying at the Millenium Hotel, directly across from the World Trade Center. When I told this to Ron, he told me how he worked in the World Trade Center and how facinating it was to work there. Even though I only met him once, I will always remember him and will think of him as a hero. My prayers go out to his family.
Peter J. Shanz, new friend

I met Nick several times when he was visiting our UmeVoice main office in California. Nick was bright, fun and always helpful solving a problem. He had a great balance of working hard and being your friend.

Scott Rohner

I was a senior when Scott was a freshman at Hobart. I played football with him there. I wanted to send my blessings to his family. Although we were several classes apart, when you're on the same team, you are one. He had a big heart and a great sense of humor. I often saw him when I visited to Hobart. He was a leader and a friend who will be missed by many, including myself. May he rest in peace. When the bell goes off before the football games, he is one I can think of! God bless!

I miss your smile. I miss your sense of humor and your wisdom. You were always a great friend and someone I will never forget. I thank you for all you did for me and for the rest of the "family." Your honesty and loyalty is something we all could use as an example of friendship.

It's been eight long years and although time continues to move forward, the pain of losing you never lessens. Every day you are thought of and deeply missed. My love for you never fades and memories keep you close to my heart. With each star in the sky and every dragonfly that takes flight, and every sunflower that blooms, you are remembered and loved. Forever, Mom

LU Tributes - For The People By The People
Brian Novotny
Total Candles 3
My brother Brian was most of all a good friend. Not only to me but to many others. It wasn't apparent to me how many lives he touched until after this tragic event. I met so many people who traveled from different states and even different countries to pay their respects. They had nothing but great things to say about my brother. Their memories all reflected the caring, humorous side of my brother that we'll always remember. He was a passionate competitor at work and at play. Some might say that my brother lived a lifetime in his thirty three years. His zest for life him all over the world. His love and respect for his grandparents drove him to file for Irish / US dual citizenship. He was always on the go. I was often envious of his travels. After September 11th we had many calls from relatives in Ireland. Many people in Ireland had relatives lost in this tragedy particularly the families of the NYPD and FDNY. We heard a touching story from County Tyrone in Northern Ireland, home of my mother's parents, where Catholics and Protestants held a joint candlelight vigil in memory of the victims from the World Trade Center holding their pictures and joining in prayer and song. He's working his magic from above. The great picture attached shows my brother at Windows of the World looking out over the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, the same site our grandparents viewed as they entered this great country 80 years ago. It will hang in my house as long as I live and my childrens from then on. We'll never forget his smile, his jokes or his caring touch. His number in sports was always 14. Whether it was soccer, basketball or baseball it was always 14. Never knew the significance ....didn't really care. This year my son's, Brendan and Tyler will both honor their uncle Brian by giving up their numbers to proudly wear #14 for the upcoming Lacrosse season. In a world sometimes short of role models they were fortunate to have him in their midst. He will never be forgotten.
Bill Novotny, Brother

I didn't know you well, but your girlfriend, Tara, was one of my good friends at UVM. I pray that you are safe and at peace in heaven. I also pray that your family and friends make it through the holidays in peace as they lean on each other for comfort. Tara, you are a strong woman that will carry Martin's soul with you on your journeys.

Blue C. Rowe

I am the Chaplain, along with 1SG Obalabi, who made this notification. This was my fifth death notification in 2009. I remembered this one like it was yesterday, and I routinely think about 1SG Rowe’s wife and their son, who was seven at the time. This notification stands out to me because we had to come back to the house a few times because no one was home. We finally saw a light on around 2130, and I and 1SG O went to the door and knocked. 1SG Rowe’s wife answered the door, and it was clear that his wife was not registering why we were there. She did invite us, and we sat down at the table, and ISG O made the notification. 1SG Rowe’s wife said, "Are you sure?" She asked that question five times, and I finally said, " Ma’am, we would not be here if we were not sure. Her response to us was, I just spoke to him a couple of days ago, and he was supposed to come home next week. She immediately got up from the table, called her dad, and notified him. She collapsed to the floor and was crying. The 1SG and I just stood there. We were there for a while, and I remembered that when she asked me to pray, I had to pause a few times to keep from losing it. Cindy, I thought about your husband through the years, and I often wondered how you and your son are doing. I have often prayed for you and your family. And I thank your husband for his sacrifice to our country. I do hope you see this, and I will continue to pray for you and your family. God Bless You Chaplain Will Strong Jr. US Army Retired Romans 8:37

Philip A. Murphy-Sweet

Phil worked for me when he volunteered to deploy to Iraq with the Joint Contracting Command. He was a great officer, a great friend and an incredible husband/father. He was just a couple of days away from returning from his deployment. I received an email from him on 5 April requesting to stay a bit longer so he could finish the job started. I had not yet responded to his email when I was notified by our Commanding Office on Easter morning that Phil had been killed. Miss you Phil!

David A Wilkey Jr

A good young man. My son's best friend.

Jose Ricardo Flores-Mejia

It's been 20 years since your passing... However, I never forgotten the day you told me I am married, I am going to have a baby, and day your son was born... You touched some many lives in different ways in your brief time on this earth in ways others can't imagine... Some people can be given a life time on this earth and accomplish nothing, and there are some people who are given a short time and accomplish so much... You Mr. Flores-Mejia aka Ricky was that person and soldier who accomplish so much in your shoft tme... As I see the days pass by, and the war seems to be a distant memory, your memory is still alive in my life, and still on this and like other days with my grandchildren I sit back like we did many times and listen to those West Coast oldies... "Never Forgotten"

Frank E. Adamski III

To the family of Frank Adamski, including his wife and daughter, my sincere condolences. I plan to make sure he is never forgotten.
